What is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?
If your child’s school has already conducted an evaluation, but you disagree with the results...
You are generally entitled to one IEE at public expense each time the district conducts an evaluation you disagree with.
The district must provide you with information on where to obtain an IEE.
The district must either agree to fund the IEE without unnecessary delay or file for a due process hearing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about the evaluation process, insurance, or remote testing? Find answers to our most common inquiries below.
Q: Do you take insurance? To maintain complete independence and ensure your child’s evaluation is tailored strictly to their needs (not insurance company restrictions), School Psychologist Services, PLLC is an out-of-network provider. We provide a transparent fee schedule upfront. Upon request, we can provide a Superbill (itemized receipt) that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Q: How do remote evaluations work? Is it as accurate as in-person? Yes! Modern digital assessment platforms (like Q-Interactive by Pearson) are standardized, highly reliable, and validated for remote use.
We use secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing.
Your child will need a quiet room, a computer with a webcam, and a stable internet connection.
Remote testing is efficient, allows your child to test in a comfortable, familiar environment, and eliminates travel time for your family.
Q: Will my child’s school accept a private evaluation? Under federal law (IDEA), schools are legally required to consider private evaluations when determining eligibility for IEPs and 504 plans. While a private evaluation does not automatically guarantee a specific school placement or service, it provides a highly defensible, expert data profile that schools use to guide their decisions.
Q: How long does the evaluation process take? While school district timelines can take several months, private evaluations are typically much faster. From our intake meeting to the final feedback session and delivery of the report, the process usually takes between 3 to 4 weeks.
Q: What is the difference between an IEP and a 504 Plan?
An IEP (Individualized Education Program) provides specialized instruction and modified curriculum for students who meet specific state eligibility criteria.
A 504 Plan provides accommodations (like extra time, sensory breaks, or preferential seating) to ensure a child with a disability or impairment has equal access to learning, but does not involve specialized instruction. Our evaluation will help clarify which pathway best fits your child’s needs.
